Art

Art activities are a great opportunity to repeat information used in those great connections.  You can repeat and build on conversations while creating great works of art.  In art, anything goes.  Play dough, paint, crayons, stamps or stickers can all provide that shared attention to a topic.  By using familiar language, you will have more success in keeping those turns going!

Washing hands art activity ideas

Trace hands on a piece of paper.  Talk about them being “clean” and then take a crayon and make them “dirty!”

Use a paper hole punch to make bubbles.  Use a glue stick to glue the bubbles onto the dirty hands.  Talk about how it feels “sticky” just like the soap did in the story.

You can trace the hands 3 times showing them dirty, with bubbles and then clean!  Now that’s a story in itself!  And what a great conversation!

Peanut butter and jelly sandwich activity ideas

Draw or cut out 2 pieces of bread.

Use brown and purple paint or crayons to represent peanut and jelly.  Talk about spreading it on the bread.

Talk about putting the pieces together to make a sandwich.

Make lots of pieces of bread and talk about what you like on your sandwich.  Make everyone a different sandwich!
