Website Links
Here are some websites that we recommend.

Typically, children are trying out single words around age one and are putting 2 words together around age 2.  I’m often asked, “My 2 year old is not talking, should I be concerned?”  My answer is YES.   There may or may not be a problem as there are many speech, language and communication skills to consider.  However, if there is a problem, early intervention is going to produce the best outcome.  You won’t regret checking it out.  The following link is from the American Speech and Hearing Association and is an excellent reference for typical language development.  The site can also help you find a certified speech and language pathologist.

The information on this site applies to all language learners but has been especially successful for me in my interactions with non verbal children and children with autism.  Using routines and actual photos have helped me to keep interactions simple and predictable.  If your child has special needs there is a good chance you are already working with a speech and language pathologist.  Your therapist can help you further adapt routines that are motivating to your child.  They can give you more information on how to adapt interactions for turn-taking and how to support play.   Routines can provide excellent opportunities to target specific language objectives.  To find a certified therapist go to:
